
Bishop Stephen Ferrando
Bishop Stephen Ferrando, S.D.B. (1895–1978), was an Italian missionary and Salesian priest who played a pivotal role in the growth of the Catholic Church in Northeast India. Born in Rossiglione, Italy, he was inspired by Don Bosco’s vision and joined the Salesians, making his first profession in 1912. After serving in World War I, where he received the Silver Medal for Valour, he was ordained a priest in 1923 and soon after was sent to Assam, India, as part of the third batch of Salesian missionaries .
